I got an unproofed early copy with no pictures and something like 243 pages. It seems all the goods are there just no pics and no credits or acknowledgements. Read it in two days as it is a page turner and we are all familiar with the stories it was like visiting a good friend from the old days for the most part.
The early days are a fun read and you see the cracks forming from day one. The ascension into the 1995 tour is a good read and really brought me back. I remember walking into those shows and you could just feel the tension in the band, especially the brothers, nothing will ever match that intensity.
You guys have mined out most of the talking points with Page some of which I didn’t know, that provides some insight on the latter days.
I know most of us give Pete a hard time, but he had an impossible job. The brothers are unbearable which I always assumed. I didn’t realize what a handful Rich was during the run. I always assumed he just put up with Chris, but he had his issues as well.
I’ll just put down a few thoughts and let everyone else make up their minds as that’s what happens anyway.
Notes:
Chris had an undeniable energy and pursuit of music.
Rich never touched anything drug wise.
Johnny Colt comes off the most level headed.
Marc’s down fall is glossed over a bit, but it is depressing.
Ed did whatever he wanted and stayed out of the fray.
Sven had an unfavorable run in with meth and speaks 8 languages.
Amy Fickle smokes more pot than Chris.
The Page thing could have gone a lot of different directions ultimately it went the worst way for the Crowes and Steve.
Chris and Rich both do a lot of double talk.
Stan backed a lot of the early Crowes adventures.
Caveman and Pete don’t seem as bad as we all think.
The bottom line is as we suspected we will never know the true relationship of Chris and Rich. They need each other but can’t coexist, which is the greatest tragedy.
They all say they are done with each other but have said that over the years so much one can’t believe it.
And my final conclusion I miss 1995.

Oh, Steve likes beer.
