Interesting comment about younger bands.
My band made about 5 dollars in royalties, and the drummer was upset when I didn’t want to add him as a songwriter on songs he didn’t want to learn.....But maybe we were too old.
I think the general dynamic of driven musicians, those along for the ride and so on will exist forever. But there are bands that have smart people asking for advice and doing it right from the start
The Music business is still out to suck money out of talent But there is a lot more knowledge and info out there now for driven people that want to Control their own careers

: David Fricke once called it "running in the other direction (from what is popular/the trends), almost screaming for their lives"....That's all well and good, but as Steve said, they made so many enemies, they alienated themselves in the business itself.

: PJ is a great example of how to do it right and be consistent. It's ironic CR was already jealous of them by 1993. There are so many others from their own generation. I would ask how many other bands did this, not how many were like TBC.

: This particular section of the CR/RR career is like the Van Halens on steroids. At least Eddie and Alex stuck by one another, outside of their embarrassing later career display. CR and RR split, have been split artistically for years, and I think it's why I don't really get the Warpaint/BTF years. It came across like they were sspecifically on their best behavior to make sure rthey could keep the money steady.

: A lot of younger bands don't seem to have much of this issue at all and it may be because the money from record labels and labels changing so much, has gone away. There's not a ton of money to fight over in this day and age compared to when labels ended up investing in marketable bands. Today, the younger bands that are worth a shit are ok with grass roots type stuff.
