Ok you are way more up to date than myself, I have seen YouTube videos daring to ask is an American Strat really that much better than a Mexican? I never looked to what conclusion they drew, but growing up, you absolutely bought American if possible. From a former insider meaning simply someone who paid close attention to gear, but mainly an outsider now, it seems as if the likes of Jack White and Dan Aurbach brought a newfound appreciation to the sound coming from some of the more obscure, and likely cheaper material guitars.
: I haven't heard too much with Gibson regarding quality and that would be surprising to me, but maybe they got too cute and too big for their britches and did try to shave off some quality in the process. Absolutely possible. I just know when I've picked up another of their stuff in the past, the pricetag has always been justified in my eyes.
: That said, Fender owns Guild and seems to do a good job managing quality, even overseas, IMO. I think the element of "US made" and "made in Korea or China" has narrowed or it maybe it just depends on the quality control management aspect in those plants overseas. And, you can get a Guild Starfire for example at like less than half the cost of one of their ES335s. It's essentially the same guitar, with arguably the Starfire IV being more impressive overall. Sound is slightly different, but awfully close.
: I went to NAMM this past January before all this blew up and was able to get my hands on a gazillion different guitars, which was fun.
: Talk to the Ford pedal guys at BMF, too. They were gushing over being able to work with him. Also, talked to Bill Asher for a bit. Nice guy.
: Not a huge fan of the aesthetics of the Ford Asher, but no doubt the quality and craftmanship on that thing, is top notch.
: The Mutron guys were near us and spoke with them, as the Jerryesque envelope filter stuff was heard loud and clear. Love that thing.
